Whether you’ve been in the middle of wedding planning for months or just recently got engaged, the holidays are a typical down time for most couples; and rightfully so. The business of planning your wedding should be pushed back while you spend time with family and friends. How else should you spend the holidays? BUT now that time is over and it is time to get back into the swing of things. In order to do this, I’ve come up with my top 3 tips to start the new year right to plan your 2020 wedding!
1. Reminisce about the great holiday memories you made.
The holidays are great! It’s always good to look back on the awesome memories that each of you created with your family and friends.
- Was there a cool moment you got to share as a couple? A romantic break away from the family?
- Were you able to continue a favorite tradition? It could be trimming the tree, caroling, or a family game night (one of my personal faves).
- Were you able to start a new tradition?
- What about all the delicious food? Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and THE PIES!
2. Recap where you are in the process.
This is important regardless of how far away your wedding date is. When I’m in the middle of working on something major and step away from it briefly I will often get an “ah HA!” moment where an idea that I hadn’t even considered comes to mind. This is one of my favorite parts of brainstorming :). This step is also important because it will bring both of you up to speed with where you are at and what needs to be focused on next. Personally, if I put something on pause, a refresher helps me to remember the details and gets me back on track to where we currently are and helps me get ready for what is next.
3. Look at your wedding planning schedule and adjust where necessary.
Life happens, and things sometimes take much longer than we expect. But it’s not the end of the world (or your wedding 😉 ). Did the recap give you possible different directions that will allow you to get back on track? Maybe it would be better to adjust to something slightly less ambitious while not sacrificing the vision you have for your event. Use resources like Instagram and Pinterest to come up with ways to make it happen. Then … DO IT!
Your wedding is going to be full of those magic moments for you both, and it will make the planning on preparation you are doing now so worth it!
If you’re working with a wedding coordinator, this is a great time to send them an email and wish them a Happy New Year. You can also include in the email a follow up where you are in the process (assuming she hasn’t already contacted you!).
Here’s to a Happy, Exciting, and Memory-filled wedding planning in 2020. It will be the start of the rest of your life together!
